Feedback and the ‘SMILE’ file (video)In Feedback, Photography, Video
My sister advised me to set up a ‘smile file’ I actively ask for feedback after a job. (good or bad) it helps me to improve my service.
Sometimes it can be hard to get going on a project. A big edit or a long trying day can easily make you forget what it is that makes you do what you do. The ‘Smile file’ allows me to have a quick look at some great and very flattering things people have said about me.
If you don’t have your own file I can highly recommend making one.
here is the full text and owners of the feedback.
The Smile file
“When I hired David as the Multi-Media producer for Metropolis Business Media, I believed I had found a guy who, aside form having the perquisite journalistic and film making skills required for this position, understood the three relevant pillars of management that were important in making a success if this newly created position, self management, project management and client management. I was right, David has proven himself to be self-sufficient when required and as such entirely reliable. He is comfortable directing clients, ensuring they hit the right tone with their message, and he successfully delivers communication pieces of a high standard, on message, on budget and on time. David is a pleasure to work with and to manage.” December 28, 2012, Andrew Small Digital Manager at Metropolis. Andrew managed David at Metropolis Business Media
“It is always an absolute pleasure to work with David. When I started at Metropolis I was new to and apprehensive about on-camera work, but David is fantastic at putting your mind at ease and making the job really enjoyable. I thoroughly recommend David for his considerable expertise, professionalism and sense of humour.” December 18, 2012, Natalie Healey Web Editor at Laboratory News Natalie worked indirectly for David at Metropolis Business Media
“David is a highly innovative professional photographer who was among the first to spot the potential of web-based technologies to enhance his department’s output. He led the way in Trinity Mirror in the use of Soundslides, producing high-quality, added-value content for our web sites. David also played an important part in enabling the roll-out of the technology to our other newsrooms.” May 21, 2012 Neil Benson, Editorial director, regionals division, Trinity Mirror plc
“David is a forward-thinking media professional in addition to being a first-rate photographer – he was quick to spot the benefits embracing digital could bring to traditional media. “The expansion in digital productions, particularly soundslides, around 2005 was both exciting and mystifying for newspaper groups. I’d been training the Press Association’s regular grouping of journalist then when I came across David Berman’s work. It was expressive, creative and won him a mention on Poynter’s (US) behemoth site. In person David, a seasoned photojournalist, had a clear direction of the tools and productions. Sometimes for reasons unfathomable the talented and first wave don’t get the recognition they justly deserve. David falls in that camp. He’s a terrific photographer, communicator and digital creative capable of working projects from small and boutique to grand and bespoke. I have a film I will put together eventually, but in the meantime would suggest you drop him a line. You won’t be disappointed” May 21, 2012 David Dunkley Gyimah, Publisher of International Award Winning, www.viewmagazine.tv

As head of a busy photographic department at the Advertiser, David was a great team leader, committed to producing quality work under pressure, turning good ideas into fantastic pictures and always bringing out the best in colleagues. On top of all this, he’s great fun to work with too.” May 23, 2012 James Wickham, News Editor, Croydon Advertiser (Trinity Mirror)

He is an excellent communicator with outstanding customer facing talent.” May 30, 2012 Nicola Rogers, Publishing Director, Northcliffe Media

“Your work for us on Friday filming the DFNI Charity Ball was commendable. It is seldom in one’s professional career that one encounters anyone so professional, co-operative, hard-working and intelligent about being helpful. After the first interview I felt completely confident leaving you interviewing to camera global CEOs yourself without me having a look in on the interview while I rounded up other subjects for filming. I’ve not seen the face to face interviews yet but am now highly confident that they will be of an exceptionally high standard. Thank you very much.
